Okay, my speakers are almost done, and I just need to cut the coupling to shorten it up a little. We're bringing in the boat from storage in about mid-March, and if possible, Dad and I will probably wire the tower, rather than getting it done professionally.

I do not have any pictures at the moment, but we have a 2" joint at the bottom which we are getting around by coming out of the tower at the bottom and into the boat with maybe 2-3" of exposed wire.

Does anyone have any tips as to what to do to cover up the wire and seal it (so water doesn't possibly drip into the boat)? Also any tips or instructions on wiring the tower as far as drilling and wire feeding goes?

Thanks.

I ran into the same situation , and used a little 5200 marine sealant to seal the holes . Takes a couple days to dry, but it worked out really well , and if u plan where the hole gets drilled , the tower will cover the exposed wire when in the upright position , but when it is folded then u will see more wire . If that makes sence !!

Surely someone out there must have an idea how to drill and feed the wire?

Also, is there anyone with a simple wiring plan of how this should be run?

This is the deal! First off, how much power are you running. I'm guessing 16awg speaker wire will do. Get rubber gromets for where the wire comes out for the speakers (smaller), and where both pair come out near the gunnel (larger). You will drill all of the holes on the tower first. Remember, you are drilling into a curved surface, so size the drill bit slightly smaller than you normally would for the gromet. Use a shop vac so a minimum amount of metal shavings fall inside the tower tubing.

You will now need the shop vac for the wire install. Either use twine or kite string and feed it where the left speaker wire exits the tower. Place the shop vac at the whole near the gunnel. The suction will draw the string. Once the string is through tape the string at the top so it doesn't get pulled through anymore. Repeat the previous steps for the other speaker. Use electrical tape and tape the string to the end of your wire. One person pulls the string while the other pushes the wire. When complete, install the gromets.
