Please don't. I have not read the books yet. I don't want to know what's coming up in the show. _________________ Work SUX! |

IIRC, Everybody dies in book 2.
I'm not sure if I recommend reading the books. They are SOOO good. I haven't been able to complete anything that I have started reading since finishing book 5. Everything else pales in comparison, it's a pretty big letdown. |

I can't wait for the season to start!!! I haven't read the books yet either, normally the books are better, but my list of books to read is just too long right now anyway. |

I got pretty bored with the books when I got to book 4. There are too many people to keep up with and I'm more of a skimmer than a reader so it got difficult to keep up with.
However, I like the series and am ready for the 2nd season to get going. |

Just finished the first season as well. The final image is pretty fresh in my mind.
The author has no problem killing off main characters for sure. _________________ WakeSurf and Wakesurfing News |

Book 5 was much better, but I was pretty much over the series after Book 4 so I never really got back into it. He should have just skipped 4 because it was about too many nobody's that I didn't care to find out what happened to them. |

Love this show. My wife is reading the books and her new favorite past time is to throw out spoilers anytime I talk about it. _________________ TONA

Except that the show is only loosely (at best) based on the books. Been a fan of ASOIAF (actually, pretty much anything Martin has written) for years but the show is only decent when you can disconnect it from the books. It's a typical Hollywood style make over of a great book series.......... |

I disagree... granted I only saw the first season, but I was amazed by how closely they actually followed the book. |

yeah, my wife says its very close in season 1 and only subtle differences in 2 (though admits those differences could throw the story long term). I didnt believe her so I did some spot checking while on the throne myself and I recognized every single thing I saw. I would assume there is just more more detail and backstory added in the books. _________________ TONA

I thought they followed the books fairly closely. They can't include all the details due to time constraints, but they have followed the storyline I think. The only real difference I've noticed is Tyrion didn't have his nose chopped off the last episode. |

The differences are in the details for sure but the great thing about Martin's writing is the details and the fact that his characters are "grey". The good ones do some bad things and the bad ones aren't always bad.
Brew, I could write a novel on how they have deviated from the books but who would want to read it. Granted I have read the books many times so I am a bit more picky than the average viewer. Add to that I don't have TV so I don't really have any other shows to compare the production to. I will agree that if you can disconnect from the books the shows are done well.
Example, one detail that stands out is all the gay stuff between Loras & Renly. In the books it was never really put out there and left you speculating. Much more entertainging(?) than watching a couple of dudes make out, IMO....... |

they have strayed pretty far off the books in season 2 - skipped the entire seige of river run, have jaime killing his cousin, changed the jon snow/halfhand/ygritte storyline, pared the battle of blackwater back about 75%, jacked dany's storyline up 100% - the dragons never get stolen or her khalisar slaughtered. season 1 was pretty spot on. |

i think we're all in for some disappointment here. they pretty much blew the budget on the battle of blackwater and they still need to sew up jon north of the wall, and how the mess in king's landing on top of the house of the undying - all in one episode. |
