I have a 2005 Sea Ray 185 Sport and Im going to design and build a stainless steel Wedge to bolt on to the engine mounts much like the Malibu wedge.
Anybody out there experimented with building a wedge or has successfully made one please share your secrets.
Much appreciated
PS: I'll keep you all updated with the progress

Do a search on this site. A guy built one for his 2001 Nautique he had pics and everything but he never ended up saying how well it worked when he finished. Good luck. _________________ There'll be two dates on your tombstone/ And all your friends will read 'em/ But all that's gonna matter is that little dash between 'em... |

| not to rain on your parade , but that boat , even if it had the 4.3 motor is gonna not have enough power to handle the wedge . If you notice most wedged boats are in excess of 300hp !!! Just weight it with fat sacs , and cheap weight sets . Good luck |

JR is right about the power even in a Malibu with 300+ hp. You can really tell the difference when its down.
Second , I have seen on here somewhere where a guy put the Wedge on his MC and just about ripped off the transom. |

thebulkhimself, on an i/o or an o/b you don't need a wedge. Trim up your engine and that should bring the back of the boat into the water. Typically you will need to compensate more weight to the front, not the back.
If anything get a hydrofoil for your outdrive.

I would never recommend anyone build their own wedge unless they were in a ski boat and trade sets between boarding and skiing and need a quick way to drop the boat farther in the water. Otherwise it's much better and easier to just add weight. _________________ You have just entered the twilight zone. |

If you add a wedge to a boat that isn't designed for it, you will quickly find yourself swimming to shore with a boat on the bottom of the lake. _________________ http://kmags.mybrute.com/

I guess that settles it
It wasnt going to be your malibu style 600kgs of down force style wedge - Also I'd have to talk to the boat designer and sort out strength ratings and put sheer pins in the wedge armsso that the wedge would depart before the back of the boat but there seems to be enough people opposed to the idea that I might just stick to ballast until I bring in a Wakesetter
Thanx for the opinions guys
