sat we were goin out to find my slider (wasnt anchored, stupid me) and i was crankin up the boat. it turned over and i stopped did it again and stopped. then i turned it over and let off of the starter and the starter kept turning over, so i turned it off... it kept rolling over. i leaned down and flipped the switch on my batteries and it cut off. im thinkin what is goin on, so i turn the batteries back on and it kept turning over. i thought it was the switch so i went and got a new one, undid the old one and held all the wires apart and flipped the battery; it turned over. so i flipped my kill switch down flipped the battery and you guessed it, it turned over. does anyone know what is goin on here and how to fix it? i heard that it was the solenoid, but im looking for multiple opinions. thx.

My boat was doing the exact same thing last summer. I ended up replacing the starter switch (wasn't the main problem), starter solenoid, and I put new battery cables (Big ol 0 guages). The problem was fixed, I also got a new battery. I'd start w/replacing your cables first and checking your conections. I had to get the big cables from special place, can't find them at a autparts store.

I think that it is the starter solenoid, battery cables couldn't cause this but the starter solenoid could.

This sounds like selonoid problems on the starter. Much like a car can do.

find the solenoid and turn the batteries on, if the starter starts running tap the top of the solenoid with a small hammer or wrench. If the solenoid is the problem it should free up and stop the starter. If this works you still need to replace the solenoid because it will stick again. Also solenoids will last longer if they are mounted correctly (the domed side up, normally the posts are closer to the top).

The same thing happened to my friend's boat. Until you can replace it, just do what steelerguy said. If you cant reach it with a hammer, get a long piece of wood or pipe and put that against it and hit the wood with a hammer.

1.as the voltage drops , current goes up and fuses the points
2. the coils could be corroded.
3. the teeth on the bendix could be hanging up on the flywheel.

i go with #2 .use a marine solonoid.

Boat store should have them. Go your boat/engine manufacturer's webpage and find a local shop.
