I just put a new coat of teak oil on my step. I was wondering how you guys go about the process. Do you sand it down everytime you apply or do you just apply? |

I sand mine done once or twice a year and oil it down every couple of weeks to once a month during the season. Thers' a good article on the Mailbu boat owner web site on the subject of teak cleaning:

I don't sand mine at all...just scrub it down really good and then oil the heck out of it. Always looks brand new when I'm done, but I only do about once a year although I should probably do it twice. _________________ "Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both." Clean it with teak cleaner let dry, sand it spray with water to get all the dust off of it, let dry then oil it. I do this once a year. During the year I clean it with teak cleaner then oil it. If you get any lose pieces use Gorilla glue. It has a shelf life so don't open until you are going to use it. |

I keep mine in the water, so deck is always underwater and it is basically always shot. But when i do do it over, about once a year. I do not sand it. You should. Next time i will get glass swim platform. _________________ Check out https://www.facebook.com/darcizzleoffshore |

There's a 3-step teak restoration kit you can get at all the boat supply places. Use a soft brush and follow the steps. Your platform will look much better. Mine did, and its 20 years old.
Caution, don't scrub too hard. You can damage the teak by scrubbing too hard with the chemicals, even using a soft brush. |
